First Days in Malay!

Well, the transit in Hong Kong was long-winded and…well…not boring, but just plain long and an energy consumer.

Checkout at the Hotel was around 12pm noon, so I had a whole 9 hours to kill after that, before catching the plan to K.L. and eventually arriving really late (or early depending on which way you look at things). Luckily Hong Kong airport was quite big, with a lot of entertainment features, my favourite one of all would certainly be free Wi-Fi Internet Access throughout the airport, which was a real jackpot when you have so many hours waiting up your sleeve.

Food wasn’t cheap, but extremely nice in the airport. There was almost too much to choose from! It took me more than 1 hour to thoroughly scope out the airport (both T1 and T2) to know where all the food places were and where powerplugs were available for me to plug my laptop in. After having a nice lunch, I eventually settled at a comfy desk wiht a powerplug nearby and that would be the place I stayed at for a good few hours, doing some work for the company and also relaxing.

9pm rolled around eventually, but it took far too long. Fatique has already taken place, especially to the thought of not being able to sleep in a proper bed until more than 5 hours later, with still a descent amount of journey to be covered ahead of me.
The plane eventually landed in K.L. just after 12:30am, I have to admit I felt like SH*T, and just wanted to get to bed! Customs, immigrations and health checks took longer than usual, because of the ever popular H1N1 Influenza, which was a real hassle, but I guess I should be happy I wasn’t quarantined?

Ji Hyun suggested me to take the train to K.L. Sentral, and then taking the Taxi from there to the accommodation, as this would be much cheaper than just taking a Taxi straight from the airport. So I was frantically looking for trains and where to buy train tickets outside the airport, however there seems to be absolutely no sign of anything to do with trains. Eventually I took a bus, which cost me 8 ringgit, and later on found out that from LCC airport (which is the domestic K.L. airport) there are no trains available! But it turned out the bus trip for 8 ringgit was a bargin, as the train would have cost more than 30 ringgits.

First impression of Malaysia, before I could see anything, I can feel HOT HOT HOT! Humid + Hot = Sweating-when-you-are-sitting-down-doing-nothing…

The bus ride was long, and from K.L. Sentral the taxi ride was 15min more. Eventually I arrived at the accommodation around 3:15am, and realized that I have been awake for nearly 24 hours straight. Off to bed I went!

(At the gym, where we are training. My first training session in Malay, ha!)

Surprisingly though, I didn’t sleep for that long. Just after 11am I was awake and we had a nice lunch together. Later in the afternoon we went to the gym, which happens to be in the hall we are training in. It was so amazingly hot, I really miss the cold weather in NZ!

Really looking forward to training tomorrow, but not at all looking forward to the heat and sweating involved!

Oh yea, for those of you who need to get in touch with me, my Malay number is: +60 1292 72914. I will not be using my NZ number while I am in Malay, and may only periodically check that number for messages a few times a week.
